Tuesday's Thoughts

In my sparest of spare moments, I like to write poetry.
For Christmas, I 'published' a book of my poems for my mom. :)

I was thinking about some of the 'great words' that are
recorded of the early American Patriots, and the words of
Nathan Hale reminded me of God and how He asks for my
life to serve Him.

Here is a poem I wrote:

ONE LIFE

The words of a patriot resound in my ears,
And the actions of a Saviour bring tears.

Nathan Hale loved his country with a passion
And the last words that he spoke were to this fashion:

"I regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
Hale gave his life for Country, when he hung on a tree.

There is one, though, who gave His life for much more than country.
One who was born to die, to save men's soul's on Calvary.

Jesus Christ shed His blood for sinners on a tree,
Was laid in a tomb, but rose again after three days for you & me.

Hale's words can cause me to remember the freedom I prize.
But his famous phrase I am going to revise.

"I regret that I have but one life to live for my Lord Jesus Christ."
I love my country dearly, but for my GOD would I give my life.
