WHAT CHILD IS THIS
What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ok and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made fles,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
William C. Dix (1837-1898)
This song contains most of the elements of what we think of as the Christmas story. It has the birth of Christ, the angels, the wisemen...and most importantly it has the reason Christ came.. SALVATION for man.
We were in the book of Matthew last night, and Bro. Knox brought out how the book of Matthew is the only place where the wise men are mentioned. The book of Matthew is about CHRIST as the KING OF KINGS...and is written to the Jews.

That is my favorite "christmas" hymn. I wish that we sang them all year too. After all it is because of His birth and life and death that we gather together to worhip anyhow. Why not celebrate His birth all year round?
