This week's thought is from my class on Isaiah 3.
Isaiah 3:16-23
16 Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discover their secret parts.
18In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet, and their cauls, and their round tires like the moon,
19The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,
20The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings,
21The rings, and nose jewels,
22The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins,
23The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails.
Here are a few interesting things I learned.
(v16) It talks about "walking and mincing as they go". I have seen many that walk this way, and I pray that my walk would never be considered by others to be this way. It is the short choppy way that some women walk to attract attention. This can often be the start of leading a man into sin. Christian women should desire that their walk never lead to that.
The main thought Pastor Knox gave was that because women were haughty and obsessed with what they had, God would take it away. The reason for this is that God wants us to worship Him not the ornaments and clothes we have. We can easily make these things idols in our lives. We spend time organizing them, admiring them, and shopping for them.
Pastor Knox gave 4 reasons for clothes:
#1 Ornaments of Guilt.... to Remember the fall of man in the Garden.
#2 Coverings against the weather....we don't have fur ;)
#3 Ornaments for the Body...Proverbs 31:21-22
#4 Mark of Rank.....To tell the type of man one is. 2 Samuel 13:18
Now, shoes, jewelry, clothing, and such are not wrong, unless we make more importance of them than the LORD.
